Among all Class A river systems in Japan, the Takatsu River system, which includes both the Takatsu River and the Hikimi River, is the only river with no artificial dam. It is now rich with sweetfish or Japanese mitten crabs and it was once an important highway which brought trading goods from below and logs from upstream.
