It is a Buddhist temple of the Jodo Shinshu sect. It has been located at the centre of Miyake Odoi Ruins Site from late-16C.

Its origin is said to be an Amitabha temple for forebears of the clan then Onimura (or Kimura) Sukemitsu and some followers of the clan refurbished it when the Masuda clan left the city after 1600.

The temple was moved 500m west of Miyake Odoi Ruins Site after the Masuda clan’s residence was registered as a national historic site in 2004. “The Buddha and his 16 deities (on silk)”, a temple’s treasure passed down from Shotatsu-ji Temple, shows high cultural standard of old Masuda.
